What we do

Match-funding during Bob Cryan’s year as IET President.

During Professor Bob Cryan’s presidential year, the IET has been matching every donation to the Futures Fund up to a total of £500,000. We’re overjoyed to announce that, thanks to the unwavering support of our members and donors, we have successfully reached this target. This amazing achievement highlights the IET’s commitment to supporting and inspiring the next generation of engineers.

The importance of inspiring more young people to choose science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) subjects and related degree courses or apprenticeships to bridge the skills gap in UK industry is widely recognised and has never been more important for the future of our profession

Because I want to give back to the community that supported me through my career

After 50 years in the engineering sector, Graham felt it was time to give back to the industry that provided him with endless opportunities. By donating to the Futures Fund he’s providing financial support to the next generation of engineers.

Because not all skills can be taught in a classroom

FIRST® LEGO® League is life-changing, but these events don’t happen for free. Without the donations of individuals and companies it just couldn’t happen. By supporting these events you’re making this learning and life experience possible for thousands of children in the UK.

IET Futures Fund funding enables pupils like those from Penpol School in Hayle, Cornwall, to take part in these kinds of competitions locally, often igniting a passion for STEM as well as helping them grow in confidence.

Jasmine was first introduced to the world of engineering at 13 years old thanks to an IET Faraday® Challenge Day arranged by her Year 9 physics teacher. Now a 2022 IET Launch Scholarship recipient, supported by the Belling Charitable Settlement Jasmine is looking to develop her career in the engineering sector thanks to the support she’s received.

"I enjoyed the day so much, and it showed me that engineering could be a viable career option. I honestly don’t think I’d have considered engineering if it wasn’t for the IET Faraday® Challenge!"
